Why a cleared drain plugs up again
Run a cable through a clog and you get a narrow channel, while most of the buildup stays stuck to the pipe wall and slowly closes the channel back up. So the camera always goes first. On the screen we can tell grease from hair, hard water scale, the rusty crust inside old cast iron, roots or a broken section, and every one of them gets handled differently: a cable pulls soft stoppages near a fixture, the jetter takes on grease, scale and roots, and a cracked hub or a sagging run needs fixing, since cleaning will never cure it.
A jetter nozzle throws water backward at high pressure, scrubbing the pipe around its full circumference, shaving roots off at the joints and flushing the debris on toward the main. Under the 1950s to 1970s tracts near Downtown Brea and the Brea Mall, the drains are often cast iron, which rusts from the inside and grows a rough lining that grabs grease, and the laterals are often clay, whose joints let in roots from street trees planted when those tracts were new. Hard water lays scale over both. What the camera shows decides how much pressure that particular pipe gets. In Olinda Ranch, Blackstone and La Floresta the drains are newer plastic, and the usual suspects there are grease in the kitchen line and wipes flushed down a toilet.
The private lateral, which carries everything from your house to the public sewer main, belongs to you, and it is the stretch we clean, film and repair. In a condo, townhome or apartment around downtown, a blockage in a shared drain stack can surface first in a neighbor's tub or sink, so we sort out which line is plugged, and whether other units drain into it, before any work starts. A closing camera pass puts today's clean pipe on screen beside the earlier footage of the clog.

- A stoppage that returns a few weeks after it was cleared
- Sewer odor indoors or around the cleanout in the yard
- Big street trees over an older clay lateral, plus a record of backups
The camera goes in first
A camera rides down the line while you watch the blockage on a screen, along with the shape the pipe is in on either side of it.
The right tool for that clog
A cable handles hair and soft stoppages in a fixture line. Grease, roots, scale and the rust crust of old cast iron go to the jetter.
Filmed again to prove it
A second camera run shows the pipe scrubbed around its whole wall, not just open down the center.
Habits that keep it flowing
You leave with a few practical kitchen and bath habits, plus a sensible maintenance schedule if big trees grow over the lateral or a restaurant kitchen sends grease down it.
How we clean drains in Brea
Working from our base in Brea, we take drain calls countywide. A line cleaned only halfway is simply the next backup in waiting, which is why four practices are built into every drain job.
Footage before and after
You watch the clog on screen before work starts and the clean pipe when it ends, so the result is something you saw for yourself.
The whole pipe wall, cleaned
The jetter strips grease, scale and roots from every side of the pipe, where a cable would only bore a hole down the middle.
No harsh chemicals
The jet is plain water. For upkeep we point you to an enzyme product rather than caustic bottled openers, which attack aging cast iron and fittings.
Damaged pipe shown, not cleaned twice
Should the footage reveal a cracked hub, a broken clay joint or a sag that explains the repeat clogs, you learn about it first, and you are not billed for another cleaning that would not last.
What moves the price of a drain job
Access leads. A kitchen sink trap takes no effort to reach, nor does an outdoor cleanout by the foundation, and a tub can often be cleared through its overflow opening. Plenty of older Brea houses have no cleanout on the lateral at all, so the way in is the roof vent or the toilet flange once the toilet is pulled, and that takes extra setup. In condos and apartments the clog may sit in a stack that several units share, which can mean coordinating with the association.
Next come the method and the pipe. One cabled fixture is a lighter job than a lateral jetted from the house to the main, and a root-packed clay lateral under an older house is filmed before anything else happens. Long or deep runs take more time to locate. A broken section that turns up on camera becomes its own repair, and sewer lateral work needs a permit from the City of Brea.
Once the camera has shown what is inside, the price goes on paper and the decision is yours before any work begins.
Drain cleaning around the county
Brea is our base, and each drain call in Orange County is sent out from our location nearest the address.
Brea
Kitchen lines and rooted clay laterals in the older tracts around Downtown Brea and the mall, shared stacks in the condos and apartments near Birch Street, and the newer plastic drains of Olinda Ranch, Blackstone and La Floresta, all handled from our Brea location.
Placentia and Yorba Linda
Cast iron drains under Placentia's 1960s and 1970s tracts near Old Town and Santa Fe Avenue, and long main lines beneath the larger Yorba Linda houses, from the horse-trail streets to the neighborhoods near Savi Ranch.
La Habra, Buena Park, Anaheim and Villa Park
Clay laterals and cast iron under the 1950s and 1960s houses of La Habra, Buena Park and West Anaheim, apartment stacks across Anaheim, and long laterals beneath the mature trees on Villa Park's big lots.
The rest of Orange County
Drain calls from everywhere else in the county go out from Fullerton, Orange, Irvine and our other locations.
Drain cleaning, explained
Jetting does no harm to pipe whose wall is still solid. Pipe that is already falling to pieces is a different matter, so the camera is always the first thing down the line. Thin cast iron, or clay with a joint pulled open, gets flagged for repair instead of a jetting.
A snake punches an opening through the clog so the water can get by. A jetter washes the pipe clean along its length. Snaked lines tend to plug again at the same spot, and jetted lines generally stay open far longer.
Cast iron and clay from the 1950s through the 1970s can usually be jetted once the camera has shown their condition, at a gentler setting where the wall has thinned. A clay joint that roots have split open is repaired, not jetted.
Each drain job is its own case. The price turns on which line is blocked, how we get to it, cable or jetter, and the time spent tracking down the problem. After the camera run, you get the price in writing and accept it or decline it, and nothing starts until then.
Scheduled jetting is something most houses can skip. The exceptions are restaurant kitchens and Brea houses with big trees above an old clay lateral, where a cleaning once or twice a year stops roots and grease before they form a new blockage.
